You can have anything you want... as long as you want it badly enough.

When I was young I discovered a secret... At the age of 11, I decided that if there was anything that I really wanted... I mean really truly desired with all my heart, I would be able to get it.

How did this all come about? We were living in Utah and my dad was investigating a new job opportunity in Southern California. At this point in my life, the only traveling we had done was to see family in other parts of the state and one road trip to Yellowstone and then up to Alberta Canada. But I had never been to California and to me it sounded amazing. While my dad was working on this transition, we were living in Utah and he was traveling back and forth each week. I was sad to have my dad leave each week and I really wanted to go with him. I had school so of course I couldn't leave. My dad was going there for work, so of course he couldn't take me. I had 3 younger siblings, the youngest 2 being only toddlers and my mom needed my help while dad was gone, so of course I couldn't leave. I knew better than to even ask.

Then one day my parents came to me and told me that Dad was going to take me with him on his next trip to California. I was so excited. After all the times I had been to the airport to see my dad off, this was the first time I got to actually get on the airplane. I don't remember my dad leaving me to work at all. My memories are of being with him the whole time. He was just excited to introduce me to his friends and spend time with me. We even ate dinner with a family that would soon become our family friends once we moved to that area. I was sure that this magical weekend happened just because I wished for it and wanted it really bad.

I carried this feeling with me through the rest of my life. What I learned was that if I really wanted something, I had to want it enough to keep hoping, dreaming and working for it.

This theory helped me to find a way to complete my college education after a 25 year break to raise kids. I was running a successful business and not sure how I could find time and spend years to I thought it would take to complete getting a bachelors degree. I had already completed 4 years of college, but didn't finish the necessary classes for any specific degree. After all these years I felt that the time had come and I really wanted to complete a degree. I felt lead to call the school I got my associates degree in, and they just happened to have a new degree in "university studies" that allowed a large portion of the classes I already completed to count towards the degree. I still had several classes to take, but over the next few years I completed my degree. I graduated college!!

This "vision" holding helped us find a great car when we needed to replace a car in 2022. If you remember, there were very few affordable cars, that were in decent shape, to be found because of the shortage of new cars coming out. Or really an absence of new cars on the lots. We just happened to get the first test drive on what became our car that had just been released for sale at the dealership we were at. It was in our price range and in great shape. While we were discussing the car, 3 other salesmen came up to us wanting to get the keys from us for their customers. This was a highly desired care and it was meant to be ours. This didn't just drop in our lap. We did our homework and had test driven multiple other cars and had to politely tells other people that their car was not for us. I was a long process and there were a few minor hick-ups, but we knew what we wanted and at the end of a very long day it worked out.

Holding a vision and knowing my true desires has also lead me to many other blessings in my life including career options, business building and home purchase and improvement. It even helped me with my relationships.

But this magic key is not only mine. Knowing what you really want and wanting it enough to go get it is something anyone can do.

The secret is getting in touch with what you really want, then holding onto the vision. If you know what you want, you will jump when opportunities make themselves known. But that doesn't mean you can have everything you want and it will be easy. Most of the time it takes work... and a lot of it. When I was 11, the trip seemed to just drop in my lap, but my parents told me it was a reward for all the hard work I had done helping with the kids at home. As for the other blessings I discovered through this technique, there was a lot of hard work prior to and often during the process of getting what I wanted. I'm sure there are things you have in your life that can relate to this concept as well.

One other exception that needs to be noted... You can't change other people even if you want to, no matter how bad you want it. You can improve your relationships by working on who you want to be in the relationship and how you want to show up, but that is a story for another day.

For now, keep dreaming, hold onto your vision of your future, and come make an appointment with me if you would like to get clear on your vision and start making plans to help it become your reality.
